School Closing or Cancellation
In the event of snow, ice or other hazardous weather—or other emergencies—Gwinnett County Schools, including Rosebud Elementary, may close early or cancel school for the entire day.
The decision to cancel or close school early is made by the GCPS superintendent. It’s more likely for school to be canceled in the early morning due to dangerous road conditions than for school to let out early because bad weather is approaching.
Typically the decision to cancel school is made by 6 a.m., and all major radio and television stations in metro Atlanta are notified. Also, it will be announced on GCPS TV and posted on the GCPS website.
GCPS TV is on these Gwinnett County cable channels:
- AT&T (Listed under Local Government)
- Charter (Channel 22)
- Comcast (Channel 24 or 26)
In the event of severe weather moving into our area during the day, plans to cancel school will be announced on metro-Atlanta radio and TV stations and on the GCPS website before school is dismissed.
GCPS announces only School Closing information and does not issue an announcement when school will be in session as scheduled.

When inclement weather is predicted, GCPS works with local authorities to monitor current and expected conditions in the area. If bad weather is forecast overnight, GCPS officials drive roads and bridges across the county to gauge conditions.
