2026 Milestones Results

Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

GCPS students showed strong progress on this year’s state assessments. In science, the percentage of students meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations increased in every tested grade and subject. In math, students improved in six of the seven tested grades and courses, including Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, as well as Algebra: Concepts & Connections.

Eighth-grade students also showed gains in Social Studies, with more students reaching the Proficient and Distinguished levels. A key highlight is that nearly all GCPS eighth graders take the more challenging High School Physical Science course and assessment, earning high school credit before entering ninth grade. Despite this higher level of rigor, GCPS students continue to perform at a high level.

Overall, GCPS achievement continues to exceed both state and regional averages, demonstrating strong academic growth and success across the district.

GCOS exceeded both Metro RESA and the state in every Milestones mathematics assessment, from Grade 3 Math through Algebra.

What is the Georgia Milestones Assessment and who is responsible for taking it?

The Milestones End-of-Grade (EOG) is administered to 3rd – 8th grade students each spring. All grades will take English/Language Arts and Mathematics Assessments. Fifth graders also take a science test and 8th graders take assessments in Science and Social Studies. The results of these tests provide information about the student’s readiness for the next grade level.

The Milestones End-Of-Course (EOC) is administered at the end of qualifying high school courses to provide information about the student’s achievement in those courses and counts as 10% of the course grade.

What is the purpose of the Georgia Milestones Assessment?

The Milestones Assessments are designed to measure student achievement of the standards.
At the school and district level, these results help guide decisions about instruction and programs to support and enhance student learning.
The data from the assessment allows the district to monitor our AKS and make adjustments if needed.
Students in grade 3 must pass the Reading portion of the Milestones and those in grades 5 and 8 must pass the Reading and Math portions of Milestones for promotion to the next grade.
Students in a course with an End-of-Course assessment must have the EOC count as 10% of the final course grade. The absence of a test score would result in a course grade that does not reflect the student’s true achievement.
