Current GCPS District Advisories and Committees

GCPS Literacy Advisory Council

The GCPS Literacy Advisory Council functions as a collaboration hub to unpack PK-12 literacy initiatives, review student learning and program implementation data, participate in problem-solving inquiry cycles, and provide annual recommendations to the GCPS team regarding our literacy performance.

This is a working group and our time together and in-between scheduled meetings will require participants to work collaboratively to create proposed solutions. Meetings are in progress for the 2023-24 school year.

The GCPS Literacy Advisory Council is facilitated by Chief Learning Officer, DeNelle West.

Local School Administrators Association

The Local School Administrators Association (LSAA) is comprised of current GCPS Principals and Assistant Principals. LSAA meets regularly to support all school leaders, and serves as a liason between our schools and our Superintendent and his executive team. LSAA meets quarterly with the Executive Cabinet to celebrate progress, address concerns, identify solutions and enhance collaboration in support of continuous improvement and supporting each and every student.

School Safety Advisory Council

The School Safety Advisory Council is an opportunity for Gwinnett County students, parents, community, staff, and Board of Education members to collaborate with district and school leaders regarding the status of school safety.

The work of the School Safety Advisory Council is rooted in transformational work called out in Our Blueprint for the Future: Building the Bridge from Empathy to Excellence, and the council's theme is "Working together works." At GCPS, we believe every child deserves a safe and secure learning environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. We also believe every member of Team GCPS plays a crucial role in providing that opportunity for each and every student. The School Safety Advisory Council meets four times per year and is open to the public.

The School Safety Advisory Council is facilitated by Director of Student Discipline, Randolph A. Irvin.

All School Safety Advisory Council meetings take place from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Meetings are held in Training Room 3.101. at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, located at 437 Old Peachtree Rd. NW in Suwanee.

Superintendent's Business Leadership Council

The Superintendent's Business Leadership Council is an opportunity for Gwinnett County Community and Business Leaders to collaborate with Dr. Watts and his executive team to support college and career readiness for each and every student in GCPS. At GCPS, we believe every child deserves an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills to succeed in college and careers. We also believe every member of Team GCPS plays a crucial role in providing that opportunity for each and every student. The Superintendent’s Business Leadership Council meets four times per year.

Superintendent's Student Advisory Council

"Our Student Advisory Council is a priceless resource as we make decisions that impact students across our county,” Superintendent Dr. Watts said. “I am so excited to get to know the students on our council this year, to listen and learn from them as they share their perspectives and help us make the best possible decisions for all students in GCPS. Elevating student voice is central to implementing our strategic plan. When we do this well, we should see increased student and family engagement, enhanced student-adult communication, and increased trust between students and educators.”

Dr. Watts started the (GCPS) Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council in 2022, just months after being named Superintendent in July 2021.

Teacher Advisory Council

The Gwinnett County Public Schools Teachers Advisory Council (TAC) is designed to improve the educational landscape of Gwinnett by providing executive leadership, the Superintendent, and the Board of Education with direct input from our classrooms and schools across the county.
TAC was created to bridge the gap between policy and practice and advise district leaders on educational priorities so that each and every GCPS student is well-prepared for their postsecondary college or career of choice. TAC is a solution-oriented collaboration aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions for students and adults across the county.

The Teacher Advisory Council (TAC) is comprised of 142 teacher leaders from across the district who contribute crucial, diverse perspectives on teaching and learning and support continuous improvement through feedback and collaboration. Three (3) TAC meetings will occur each year with senior leaders between October and May. TAC will meet once (1) with the Board of Education at the beginning of the budget development cycle.

TAC members represent each school building in GCPS and generally are the current or past Teacher of the Year at that school. Beginning in the 2023-24 School Year, teachers can serve up to two terms on TAC with support from their principal. While it is understood that circumstances occasionally arise where a member cannot attend a meeting, members who miss more than two meetings in a single year will not be eligible to be reappointed for a second term.
