Two students from Archer High School have earned national recognition for their skills in agricultural sciences. Juniors Timothy Reed and Tyler Roy won first place in the Power, Structural, and Technical Systems category at the state 2023 Future Farmers of America (FFA) competition. Their project, which involved agricultural equipment, power systems, alternative fuel sources, and precision technology, also secured them a bronze medal at the National FFA competition this past summer.

Dr. Kyle Jones, Director of Academies and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE), commended their efforts, stating, “This Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) is important because it connects students to real-world skills in agriculture and technology, opening doors to future careers in growing industries. Timothy and Tyler demonstrated incredible talent and determination and are proof that this is a wonderful and necessary program.”

The Power, Structural, and Technical Systems category challenges students to create projects relating to woodworking, metalworking, welding, and agricultural structure planning. The National FFA Organization is a dynamic national youth organization that promotes premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The FFA CTSO, recently introduced to students in agriculture-related CTAE pathways, offers hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for the future.

Archer and Brookwood High Schools are the only GCPS schools in the district offering the FFA CTSO, which is quickly gaining popularity as it equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in agricultural and technical fields.
