Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) and the GCPS Foundation are partnering with Arm & Hammer to support World Rocket Day!

Arm & Hammer is supplying all 81 GCPS elementary schools with science kits that include Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) resources, educational materials, posters, and the materials necessary to create “Baking Soda Rockets.” Innovative approaches to STEM and opportunities like this help students learn about how the world around them is science at work.

“The K-5 Science Office is so excited to partner with the GCPS Foundation and Arm & Hammer to bring this exciting hands-on activity to each and every school in GCPS,” says GCPS K-5 Science Director Kristin Luthi. “By providing these opportunities through our community partners, we are ensuring students have opportunity and access to engage in science and STEM at the highest possible level.”

Students will work together to assemble and decorate the rockets. Schools with the best photos and video content from their Baking Soda Rocket Day can receive a donation of $25,000 from a fund set up by Arm & Hammer. Additionally, in January 2025, Arm & Hammer will donate additional personal care items to GCPS schools to support students in need.

“Including STEM learning in instruction is imperative because it equips students with essential skills for the future,” Luthi continues. “STEM education fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation, which are crucial in a rapidly evolving technological world. It prepares students for a wide range of careers, many of which are increasingly reliant on STEM knowledge and skills. By integrating STEM into the curriculum, we ensure that students are not only prepared for the workforce but also capable of contributing to advancements in various fields.”
