Gwinnett County Public Schools
Future Teacher Signing Day

Preparing our students for their futures is an essential part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) Blueprint for the Future. As a career pathway choice through Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE), Teaching as a Profession opens the teaching field and all of its possibilities to students. Additionally, students work on the core competencies found in the Portrait of a Graduate by graduation.  Ten high schools offer Teaching as a Profession, and three middle schools offer one Carnegie Unit (a measure of the amount of time a student has studied a subject) for 8th graders, which can earn them high school credit.

“Across CTAE, our team feels a deep responsibility to students for our programs to be spaces that inspire exploration, interest, curiosity, and hope for their future. This is just as true for our Teaching as a Profession pathway; however, the difference here is how directly these students’ career exploration impacts our great school system. These students from all backgrounds, nationalities, and identities that also reflect the identities for their future students are vital to our district’s resiliency, talent development, and relevancy to our community,” says Director of Academies and CTAE Dr. Kyle Jones. “When we ‘grow our own,’ we are ensuring a bright future for our students—those in our care now and those who have yet to set foot in our hallways.” Jones adds.

Through three separate courses, students explore contemporary issues, expand their knowledge of the teaching profession, and finally complete their coursework with a practicum internship alongside a certified teacher within the district. Students can even declare their future careers in education at the annual "Future Teacher Signing Day” event hosted by the district’s Human Resources department. At the event, students receive scholarships, network, and sign a letter of intent that guarantees them an interview with GCPS upon graduation. This event celebrates students' decision to pour themselves back into the school district that nurtured them. We invite you to explore Teaching as a Profession and other CTAE pathways on our website.
