Preparing our students for their future careers is a priority in GCPS. Through a variety of Career, Technical, and Agricultural (CTAE) pathways, students can explore their interests and research career options. There is a pathway suited for each and every student: business, healthcare, education, information technology, and beyond. Many of these pathways extend beyond the classroom, providing opportunities for students to network with their classmates and build community in their pathway of choice.
Our CTAE Student Organizations are places for students to grow. At Shiloh High School, students are furthering their love for life and humanity through the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) organization. The chapter’s 43 members also participate in one of the CTAE pathways offered at Shiloh High. During a typical HOSA meeting, students focus on collaboration and critical thinking through case studies and hands-on activities that strengthen their knowledge of possible diagnoses or treatments.
Club Advisor and Healthcare Science Teacher Dr. Krystal Tomlin plays a meaningful role. “Being an advisor means taking on the role of a mentor, guide, and leader for students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare,” says Dr. Tomlin “I have had the opportunity to help shape the educational and professional experiences of HOSA members by fostering their growth in key areas such as leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking.” Her guidance ensures that students receive the support they need to thrive in their chosen field.
HOSA is special to Shiloh’s community by focusing on engaging health-related community service projects that connect students to real-world healthcare needs in the local community. They also volunteer at nursing homes and intern at doctor’s offices and hospitals for additional professional development. In September this year, Shiloh’s HOSA chapter partnered with South Gwinnett High School’s HOSA chapter for its Community Health Fair and plans to continue this partnership in 2025.
