Dacula Elementary School students stepped into the shoes they aspire to fill during the school’s “Magical Kingdom of Careers” event. Students gained real-world career experiences and made valuable connections with leaders in and around Gwinnett County and the Greater Atlanta area.
“Students tell us this is one of their favorite days of the entire year. They look forward to the interactions and experiences they get to have on this date,” says Dacula Elementary School Counselor Bobby Hokett.
The event connected students with professionals from various industries, including public safety, media, engineering, transportation, healthcare, finance, and skilled trades. Designed to help students visualize and actualize their future careers, the event also featured interactive displays and demonstrations, as well as opportunities to connect with industry professionals.
Hokett says the highlight of the event was seeing students enlightened by the opportunity.
“The smiles, looks of wonder, and the excitement of students moving from station to station getting to interact with career speakers,” Hokett shares. “Another memorable aspect was the amount of time and work speakers, volunteers, high school student volunteers, art students, and band members put into making the event extra special was amazing.”
Making an exciting and unique entrance, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Aviation Unit landed its helicopter on school grounds, giving students a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see the aviation crew and its equipment up close. Additionally, the Gwinnett Stripers mascot, Chopper, made a special appearance, along with the Dacula High School Band.
