A Discovery High School student has made musical strides this school year after being selected to participate in the High School Honors Performance Series/Honors Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Veniamin Duarte, an 11th-grade student, is humbled by the opportunity.

“The High School Honors Performance Series/Honors Symphony Orchestra is an elite ensemble,” Veniamin shares. “I am thrilled to play alongside gifted young musicians, to work alongside world-class conductors, and become a part of the Carnegie Hall legacy and history. It is an absolute honor and privilege, and I am grateful for this opportunity.”

The Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall selects top-performing students internationally through an audition process. The series gives high school students the chance to train, rehearse, and perform under the guidance of world-renowned conductors.

“Music is my passion and way of life. I’ve been playing the violin since I was five and have never gotten bored or tired of it,” Veniamin says. “I take violin lessons, and my gifted teacher, Daniel Arshavsky, makes the learning process enjoyable and productive. I practice every day… dedication and persistence are key. I serve as the current concertmaster under my talented Orchestra Director, Hermes Mejia, who also nominated me for this program.”

Veniamin will perform at the historic Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage in February 2026. All participants will fly to New York ahead of the performance to practice, make connections, and enjoy sightseeing.

In addition to his participation in the Discovery High Orchestra, Veniamin currently plays in the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) and serves as the Concertmaster of the GYSO Honor ensemble.
