Over the last week, Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has received thousands of calls and emails from students and parents concerned about threats to our schools and the safety of students and staff. We want to assure you that our School Resource Officers, along with local and state law enforcement, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI, continue to investigate each and every threat made against Gwinnett County Public Schools. Those investigations have already resulted in the arrest of nine students, who now face criminal charges. Please know that anyone who makes threats against our schools will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Since the tragic Apalachee High School incident, authorities have thoroughly investigated hundreds of social media threats, and the majority have been found to be non-credible, including the ones below. However, authorities say many of these non-credible threats are being recycled, altered to refer to one or more schools and clusters, and shared across school communities. While we understand the concern this may cause, we urge you not to repost or share these threats online, as doing so can lead to unnecessary panic and the spread of misinformation.
If you see or hear a potential threat, please report it immediately to our School Resource Officers or local law enforcement. You can also report concerns anonymously through “GCPS Tips,” available via our mobile app or on desktop and laptop browsers at P3Campus.com/5105. Anonymous tips can also be sent via text to 73847.
Once again, please notify authorities immediately if you come across a threat, but refrain from sharing or forwarding the information to others. Give authorities a chance to investigate.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our schools safe.
