Baldwin and Beaver Ridge Elementary Schools were paid a visit by Atlanta’s favorite “Dirty Bird”, Freddie the Falcon, this month.

“The atmosphere during the pep rally was filled with contagious joy and an almost tangible sense of hyper-excitement,” says Beaver Ridge Elementary School Principal Martina Luna-Liranzo. “Laughter, cheers, and music echoed throughout the gym as students waved their towels, giggled, and chanted in unison following Freddie’s guidance.”

The Atlanta Falcons host “Falcons Friday School Shows” at schools across Metro Atlanta, reaching 300,000 students, to celebrate the start of the school year and, of course, football season.

Swagging and Surfing with the Freddie

“Freddie and the team made great connections with our local PBIS core values: respect, kindness, safety, and leadership,” says Baldwin Elementary School Principal, Dr. Brenda F. Johnson. “Mrs. Baldwin [Beauty P. Baldwin, the school's namesake] was also in attendance, dressed in her Falcons’ gear. She has been a season ticket holder for the past 35 years! It was great to see the way Freddie connected the ‘new little birds’ with the older generation of Falcons fans.”

Freddie encouraged students to “Rise Up” through every obstacle and motivated them to continue being outstanding students. Freddie also hit the “Swag Surf” with everyone, a tradition at Atlanta Falcons games.

“I loved when Freddie Falcon was joking with everyone and waving the Falcons’ flag around,” says Mia, a 4th grade student.

Mia was also honored during the ceremony for her commitment to being an outstanding student. The school’s Teacher of the Year, Brandon Whisonant, was also honored for his leadership within Baldwin and the local community.
