GCPS applauds The School of the Arts @ Central Gwinnett High School
In its first year to enter the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, the Theatre Department of The School of the Arts @ Central Gwinnett High School (SOTA) earned 10 nominations for the spring musical production of "Hadestown: Teen Edition".
"We are excited to have submitted for the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as Shulers," shares Drama Teacher Liliangina Quiñones. "We chose to participate because we felt our students were trained with the skills, work ethic, and positive attitude needed for the competition. We have 10 nominations, including best overall production. We are also proud of our students who were awarded two production internships and one scholarship."

- Leading Actor: Josue Martinez & Richie Appenzeller

SOTA also received an Honorable Mention in Technical Execution, and the following students earned additional recognition:
- Jolene Braswell - Aurora Internship
- EmJ Fulford - Aurora Internship
- Josue Martinez - Carlos Family Scholarship
SOTA's Theatre students will perform at the final Awards Ceremony on April 17, which will be broadcast on www.gpb.org at 8 p.m.
Fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards (GHSMTA) program celebrates excellence in high school musical theatre. The Awards are named in honor of actor/singer and Georgia native, Shuler Hensley, winner of the prestigious Tony Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk Award. The year-round program embodies a spirit of camaraderie and celebration for the arts in high schools across Georgia.
