Reading has a whole new look at Lilburn Middle School this year!

Lilburn Middle’s Media Center received a makeover this month sponsored by the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation. The CFP Foundation aims to support education nationwide through its Extra Yard of Teachers initiative and has committed more than $92 million to impact more than 12,000 schools and 650,000 educators. Lilburn Middle received $50,000 toward its “Media Center Makeover.”

"I want to pause and give a heartfelt thank-you to the College Football Playoff Foundation, The Peach Bowl Foundation, School Specialty, and of course, their mascot, Huddles,” Lilburn Middle School Principal Dr. Nicole Irish shares. “This is a gift that will keep giving for years to come, and we are so grateful to have been selected as one of just two GCPS schools for this incredible makeover.”

During the makeover celebration, students were met with banners, balloons, and a visit from the CFP Foundation mascot Huddles. Some of the new additions to the media center include collaborative spaces, flexible seating areas and furniture, and modernized shelving.

“We have used our Media Center to host a couple of community events following the installation, and it is very functional,” Dr. Irish continues. “As I think about equity, a neat touch that the organizers included is a sensory corner. When you see the space, you will find low seating, softer materials, a sensory wall, and other sensory items. This helps to bring inclusivity to the Media Center while expanding its use as a community and shared space. This Media Center is more than a room for our Mustangs, it’s an inviting space for [students] to dream, grow, and continue Leading the Lilburn Legacy.”

The CFP Foundation also offers additional programs that support teachers and schools throughout the year, such as Extra Yard for Teachers Week and Teacher of the Year Championship Experience.
