Cowboy hats, balloons, streamers, a cheering crowd, and “Longhorn Pride” defined the recent Lanier Cluster Homecoming Parade.

“Homecoming means a sense of Longhorn Pride for the entire Cluster and the parade exemplifies the supportive community that exists within our cluster schools and our great city of Sugar Hill,” says Lainer High School Principal Dr. Christopher Martin.

Starting at Sugar Hill Elementary School, the parade follows a route that roams through downtown Sugar Hill and back. Families, children, and the entire community come out to support the parade, lined up along the route as they cheer for students and staff.

As “Chief Spirit Officer” and Principal of Sugar Hill Elementary, Dr. Nick Boyers rode in a convertible during the parade and noted the excitement everywhere. His school partnered with the Lanier Athletic Association (LAA) and other Lanier Cluster elementary schools for a friendly “Spirit Week Showdown” where students wore athletic uniforms each day at school. This week-long competition was highlighted on social media, with Sugar Hill Elementary winning with the most positive interactions, leading to Dr. Boyers donning a sash and crown.

Dr. Martin adds that the atmosphere was electric with cluster pride, and the entire Sugar Hill community came out to celebrate cluster spirit while supporting Lanier Cluster athletes, band members, cheerleaders, student clubs and organizations, and the LAA.

“The parade brings about a sense of community, and each year, our community shows up with support and pride for the Lanier Cluster,” Dr. Martin says.
