School Psychologist Week

GCPS recognizes National School Psychology Week (November 11 – 15) and celebrates the role of school psychologists within schools and communities. This year’s theme, “Spark Discovery”, highlights the work school psychologists do to help their communities seek out new ideas, effect change, and expand horizons for children and youth.

“School psychologists provide unparalleled support to our students, staff members, and learning communities,” says Executive Director of Special Education and Psychological Services Dr. Nicole White. “As GCPS is focused on the needs of each and every student, the role of the school psychologist supports our district’s strategic priorities of empathy and equity through consultation and direct support of our students in local schools.”

GCPS employs approximately 70 school psychologists who support Pre-K through 12th grade students across the district. School psychologists are assigned to all GCPS schools where they collaborate with teachers and families on multidisciplinary teams such as Student Support Teams and special education team meetings, evaluate students for special education eligibility determination, provide direct support to students in crisis, and provide consultation around academic and behavioral interventions.
