Kindergarteners at Shiloh Elementary School became “grown-ups” for a day during their Community Helper Parade.

Students could meet and dress up as community helpers of their choosing: nurses, doctors, construction workers, firefighters, chefs, teachers, and more.

“It was a phenomenal feeling [seeing students visualize themselves in various careers],” says Shiloh Elementary Kindergarten Grade Level Chair Kaylee Jackson. “The students were so excited to show off their community helper outfits, and overall, the entire school was very happy and excited for the students. Everyone talked about how wonderful the parade went after school.”

Jackson says she gathered community helpers by networking and asking local businesses for support. Among those who volunteered were a baker, a Chick-fil-A representative, an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), a pathologist, and a KONA ice franchise owner.

“It was a fun and educational event that helped our young learners understand the value of teamwork, service, and kindness in our neighborhoods,” says Jackson. “This [event] builds awareness of how society functions and the roles people play. Seeing and celebrating community helpers fosters respect and gratitude for those who contribute to everyone’s safety and well-being.
