Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!

As we begin a new year together, I want to take a moment to express how honored I am to serve as your Superintendent. It has been a privilege to spend my first weeks in Gwinnett County Public Schools getting to know many of you and learning more about this incredible district. Everywhere I have gone, I have been welcomed with warmth, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to students.

One thing has become abundantly clear: the greatest strength of Gwinnett County Public Schools is its people.
Whether I have been visiting schools, meeting with teachers and principals, talking with bus drivers, custodians, school nutrition staff, administrative assistants, central office teams, or other support staff, I have seen the same commitment to excellence and the same belief that every student deserves our very best. I have also seen the pride you take in your work and the care you show for one another. Those qualities are what make GCPS such an exceptional place.

As we prepare to welcome students back into our classrooms and schools, I want each of you to know how much I value the work you do. Every role in this district matters. Every interaction with a student or family matters. Every contribution—whether visible or behind the scenes—helps create the conditions for our students to learn, grow, and succeed.

Excellence is never the result of one individual. It is built through the collective efforts of thousands of dedicated professionals who choose, every day, to put students first. Together, we are entrusted with preparing young people not only for academic success, but for meaningful lives filled with opportunity, purpose, and hope.

This year, I encourage each of us to continue building strong relationships, supporting one another, embracing innovation where it strengthens learning, and remaining focused on what matters most—our students. Challenges will arise, but I am confident that together we will meet them with professionalism, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

One of my highest priorities is listening. Over the coming months, I look forward to visiting schools, meeting with employees across the district, and engaging in meaningful conversations through my Superintendent's Listening Tour and Transition Team. I believe the best decisions are informed by those closest to the work, and I am committed to ensuring that your voices help shape the future of GCPS.

As we begin this school year, I ask that we extend grace to one another, celebrate our successes, learn from our challenges, and never lose sight of the incredible impact we have on the lives of children. The work we do is not simply a profession—it is a calling. Every day, we have the opportunity to inspire hope, open doors, and change the trajectory of a student's life.

Thank you for your dedication, your professionalism, and your unwavering commitment to the students and families of Gwinnett County. Thank you for the warm welcome you have extended to me. I am excited about the journey ahead and grateful to serve alongside each of you.

I wish you a successful opening to the school year and look forward to all we will accomplish together.

Have a wonderful school year!

With appreciation,

Dr. Alexandra Estrella
