On February 27, 2025, Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) celebrated a major milestone in the construction of the Mary K. Murphy Middle School with a topping-out ceremony, marking the placement of the final structural beam. This tradition signifies the completion of the building’s framework and shifts the focus toward enclosing the structure and interior finishes.

Located in the Archer Cluster, the new middle school is named in honor of retired Board member Dr. Mary K. Murphy, who represented District III for seven terms. Set to open in August 2026, the school will provide additional capacity to support the student population.

The ceremony brought together GCPS leadership, members of the design and construction teams, local school representatives, and other stakeholders to recognize the collaborative efforts behind the project. Before the final beam was set in place, attendees had the opportunity to sign it, leaving their mark on this significant addition to the community. Carroll Daniel Construction and its subcontractors were recognized for their dedication and craftsmanship in bringing the vision for this school to life.

The event served as a tribute to Dr. Murphy’s legacy and the collective commitment to providing future students with a state-of-the-art learning environment.
