South Gwinnett High School students Carrington Hill and Destini Anderson recently earned noteworthy recognition, reflecting Comet Pride and accomplishment.

Carrington Hill

Carrington was selected as the recipient of the Watson Family Foundation Student of the Year Award for South Gwinnett High School.

“I felt very grateful for the opportunity, because all my hard work over the years at South Gwinnett High had paid off,” says Carrington. “I had the opportunity to grow, be myself, and learn who I am and who I want to be. This scholarship means a lot to me.”

This $2,000 award recognizes a student who has demonstrated significant growth in their career academy journey, academics, career development, behavior, character, and overall mindset. “Carrington’s perseverance, dedication, and commitment to self-improvement have truly made her stand out,” notes Franchesca Thompson, South Gwinnett High Career Academy Coach.

Destini Anderson

Destini was selected for the Delta Community Credit Union High School Apprentice Program at the Snellville branch location.

Destini’s experience included completing a virtual interview with the Delta Community team and participating in an in-person meet and greet. During the process, she was described as professional, thoughtful in her responses, and eager to learn. “I was very excited to be the first person from South Gwinnett selected for the Banking partnership with Delta Community Credit Union,” says Destini. “I hope to improve my social skills and deepen my understanding of banking and finance. I am currently in the Business Academy at South Gwinnett, and I am so ready to take what I have learned in the classroom to the workplace.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Destini to gain real-world experience in the banking industry while continuing her career development through Work-Based Learning,” shares Thompson.
