Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) Music Technology programs made a notable impression at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) Annual Conference. Carl Rieke, an orchestra teacher at Osborne Middle School, was named the GMEA District 13 Music Educator of the Year and Georgia Music Educator of the Year. Nominated by peers and selected through a rigorous process, this recognition is awarded to a music educator who has proven excellence in the classroom.

In addition to offering intensive professional learning sessions and concerts across all music disciplines, GMEA also celebrates music teachers and students for their outstanding achievements. The conference features more than 130 clinic sessions with some of the nation’s most distinguished clinicians and instructors.

“Gwinnett County Public Schools has always demonstrated leadership in fine arts across the state and the nation,” says GCPS Director of Fine Arts David DuBose. “We’re always exceptionally proud of our teachers taking leadership roles and leading the way in professional learning for educators across our state. Our students and our programs benefit exponentially from their leadership and knowledge. We are grateful to the Georgia Music Educators Association for recognizing the high-quality of our workforce and the world-class instruction we provide for our students in the fine arts every day.”

The Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) was founded in 1938 and has been active in music education in Georgia continuously since that time. The mission of the GMEA is to promote the advancement of music education in Georgia. GMEA sponsors conferences for teacher members, providing continuing education and professional growth opportunities. It also provides performance evaluations for individuals and ensembles, including band, choral, and orchestra students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
