Back-to-School 2025: GCPS schools feature new additions and improvements at the start of the school year

     Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) begins the school year in August with renovations and improvements to several existing schools. The additional classrooms and other improvement projects are part of the district’s comprehensive capital plan – funded by the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) and General Obligation (G.O.) bonds approved by voters – that provides learning environments focused on the needs of today’s learners.

Additions/Renovations for the 2025-26 School Year:

  • Additions and Renovation Projects – High school projects completed during the summer included a three-story addition to Archer High School and a cafeteria renovation at Berkmar High School. Additional projects include the new “Murphy Middle School” and a 20-classroom addition at Harbins Elementary School, both scheduled to open in August 2026.
     
  • STEM/Academy Lab Projects – Thirteen CTAE lab projects were completed over the summer, including a new greenhouse and Healthcare Science lab at Brookwood High School, a JLC lab at Shiloh Middle School, and upgrades to the Audio-Visual Technology lab at Dacula High School. Information Technology lab enhancements were completed at Parkview High School, Pinckneyville Middle School, Shiloh Middle, and Maxwell High School of Technology. Peachtree Ridge High School received a new Healthcare Science lab, and Archer High added an Agricultural Systems lab and new labs for Audio-Visual Technology & Film (AVTF), Marketing, and Healthcare Science.
     
  • HVAC Replacements – HVAC systems were replaced on buildings at Bethesda Elementary School, Camp Creek Elementary School, Collins Hill High School, Crews Middle School, Creekland Middle School, Harris Elementary School, and Northbrook Center/Buice Center.
     
  • Roofing Replacement – Roofing systems were replaced on buildings at Central Gwinnett High School Fieldhouse, Bethesda Elementary, Dacula High School Fieldhouse, Grayson Elementary School, Harbins Elementary, Lilburn Middle School, Norcross Elementary School, North Gwinnett High School, Parkview High, Shiloh High School, Simpson Elementary School, Snellville Middle School, and Sweetwater Middle School.
     
  • Interior Classroom Renovations—Renovation work was completed over the summer at Freeman’s Mill Elementary School, Peachtree Elementary School, Rockbridge Elementary School, Shiloh Elementary School, and Suwanee Elementary School. Some examples of the work completed include ceiling grid replacement, classroom lighting, millwork/cabinetry replacements, and interior painting.
     
  • Asphalt Paving – New asphalt paving was completed in parking lots and driveways at seven schools throughout the county–Central Gwinnett High, Couch Middle School, Grayson Elementary, Harris Elementary, McKendree Elementary School, Shiloh Middle, Shiloh High, South Gwinnett High School, and Starling Elementary School.

In 2025-26, Gwinnett County Public Schools will operate 142 schools.

  • 81 elementary schools (grades K–5)
  • 29 middle schools (grades 6–8)
  • 24 high schools (grades 9–12), including 19 cluster high schools, Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology; Paul Duke STEM High School; McClure Health Science High School; Seckinger High School and Phoenix HS (open campus school, grades 10–12, with a satellite campus at Sugarloaf Mills)
  • Other educational facilities:
    • Buice Center, housing ADAPT, STRIVE, and The BRIDGE (special education programs)
    • GIVE Center East (alternative school, grades 6–12)
    • GIVE Center West (alternative school, grades 6–12)
    • Gwinnett Online Campus (online school, grades 4–12)
    • International Transition Center (program at six high school sites— Berkmar, Central Gwinnett, Discovery, Duluth, Meadowcreek, and Norcross)
    • Maxwell HS of Technology (career and technical education school, grades 11 and 12)
    • Oakland Meadow School (special education school)
    • New Life Academy of Excellence (charter school, grades K–8)
