South Gwinnett High School recently welcomed Georgia Supreme Court Justice Verda M. Colvin for a “Fireside Chat,” where she shared her experiences as a judge with students interested in pursuing legal careers.
Justice Colvin, who has served on the Georgia Supreme Court since 2021, brought a “wealth of knowledge and experience to share with students,” says South Gwinnett High Career Academy Coach, Franchesca Thompson. The event, organized by South Gwinnett High Mathematics Teacher Patrick McElroy, provided students the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight into the life of a judge and what it takes to be successful in public service and the legal field.
South Gwinnett High Principal Rodney Jordan says the event was a success. “We were honored to welcome Justice Verda Colvin to South Gwinnett High School. This event was a rare opportunity for our students to learn from one of the highest-ranking members of the judiciary, and we hope it ignites their passion for the law and inspires them to pursue their dreams,” Jordan shares.
The event is the latest edition of South Gwinnett High's ongoing Fireside Chat series. The next event is scheduled for November 21, featuring former Shark Tank participant Myisha Fantroy.
South Gwinnett High's Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program in Public Service Law and Media is committed to preparing students for successful careers. With a state-of-the-art courtroom and advanced coursework, the program ensures students are equipped for career readiness.
