Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is celebrating another milestone—our graduation rate is the highest it’s been in ten years, for the second year in a row!

According to the Georgia Department of Education, the Class of 2025 achieved an 85.4% four-year Adjusted Cohort Graduation Rate (4-yr ACGR). That’s up from 84.1% for the Class of 2024 and marks steady progress for our students, schools, and community.

Georgia’s graduation rate rose to 87.2% this year, and GCPS is proud to be closing the gap. With more than one in ten Georgia high school students enrolled in the district’s schools, our progress makes a real difference for the state as a whole. Just two years ago, the gap between GCPS and the state was 2.5 percentage points. Today, it’s down to only 1.8 points. While we celebrate this achievement, we remain focused on the important work ahead to ensure every student reaches graduation.

“Congratulations to the GCPS graduates in the Class of 2025!” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Al Taylor. “This achievement shows the dedication of our students, families, teachers, staff, and principals who worked together to reach this important milestone. While we celebrate, we also know there is more to do, and we remain committed to helping every student succeed through graduation and beyond.”

Highlights from the Class of 2025

  • 13,604 graduates in the Class of 2025.
  • Every GCPS high school posted graduation rates above 80%.
  • 16 schools saw their graduation rates increase over last year.
  • 12 schools had graduation rates above 90%.
  • 12 schools achieved their highest graduation rate in a decade—or since the school opened.

GCPS families can be proud of this achievement. It reflects not only the hard work of students, but also the commitment of teachers, leaders, and staff to provide the best education possible. At the same time, the district recognizes the need to continue improving so that every student is supported on the path to graduation and beyond.

Additional details about the Class of 2025, including disaggregated graduation rate data, will be shared with the Gwinnett County Board of Education during the Work Session on October 16, 2025. The 12 schools that have a graduation rate above 90% will be recognized during the Board’s Business Meeting on October 16, 2025.

Background: The Georgia Department of Education calculates the “4-year Adjusted Cohort Graduation Rate (4-yr ACGR),” for each school district in Georgia per the federal requirements. This rate is the number of students who graduate in four years with a regular high school diploma divided by the number of students who form the adjusted cohort for the graduating class. From the beginning of 9th grade, students entering that grade for the first time form a cohort that is subsequently “adjusted” by adding any students who transfer into the cohort during the next three years and subtracting any students who transfer out. While all states use the same calculation, each sets its requirements for students to earn a regular high school diploma. Georgia has some of the highest requirements in the nation for students to graduate with a regular diploma, with Gwinnett County requirements surpassing those of the state.
