Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) recognized four REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) scholars from four middle schools at the annual REACH Signing Day event. Yaima Cardenas-Vazquez of Jordan Middle School, Sheyla Calderon Roblero of Moore Middle School, Jacob Cortez of Lilburn Middle School, and Ragib Talukder of Radloff Middle School are outstanding mentees and scholars in the REACH Georgia Program. Each student will receive a scholarship of up to $10,000 to use toward their postsecondary education. Students are chosen for this honor in the 8th grade and supported throughout high school.

“The world needs people who not only strive for excellence but also lift others up along the way,” says GCPS Executive Director of Student Services Dr. Tinisha Parker. “As REACH Scholars, these students have already shown that they have what it takes to make a positive difference—not just with their minds but with their hearts. We cannot wait to see the amazing futures they will build.”

REACH Georgia provides “greater college access” for low-income students in the state and aims to prepare them for their future careers. In partnership with GCPS’ Community-Based Mentoring Program, REACH scholars are paired with positive mentors who guide the students and provide them with the tools and resources to continue to succeed. “We are extremely proud of our four REACH Scholars and we applaud their commitment to pursuing higher achievement," says GCPS Director of Counseling, College and Career Services Dr. Demetria Williams. “It is clear that each student has the potential for postsecondary and career success, and their scholarships are an investment towards their ultimate goals.”
