Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students once again showed strong participation and achievement on the SAT, with more than 12,700 test-takers in the Class of 2025—by far the largest number in Georgia. GCPS students earned an average score of 1003*  (Evidence-Based Reading & Writing: 501, Math: 501. *Please note that individual mean scores are rounded to the nearest whole number. As a result, the sum of these rounded values may not precisely equal the combined mean score.)

While Georgia’s and the nation’s average SAT scores were 1039, Gwinnett’s results reflect something different: the Gwinnett  County Board of Education’s long-standing commitment to ensuring every student has access to the SAT. Unlike many other districts nationwide, where only college-bound students test, Gwinnett’s approach means scores represent the full range of learners across the district. The GCPS mean score for 2025 is nine points higher than the national average of 996, reflecting the district’s commitment to academic excellence.

Celebrating Progress in Gwinnett County

  • GCPS continues to provide more students than ever with the opportunity to take a college admissions test at no cost.

  • Thousands of students each year use their scores to apply for scholarships, admission, and career pathway opportunities.

  • High participation ensures equity—every GCPS student, no matter their background, has the opportunity to take the SAT.

Recognizing Opportunities

District leaders acknowledge there is room to grow, particularly in raising overall scores closer to or above state averages. The district remains committed to supporting literacy, math readiness, and test preparation resources so students feel confident and competitive.

“ What makes Gwinnett different is not just our size, but our belief that every student should have the chance to pursue their goals after high school,” said GCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Al Taylor. “We are proud of the progress our students are making, and we know that with continued focus on literacy, math, and readiness, our future results will be even stronger.”

The Gwinnett County Board of Education’s commitment to continue funding SAT for All is evidence of the district’s strategic plan, Our Blueprint for the Future, in action. With more opportunities to take the SAT, even students who hadn’t seen themselves as college-ready were able to participate—giving them a chance to explore new possibilities for their future. As a result, 4,706 students met the math and reading college and career-ready benchmark set by the College Board, compared to  4,254 in the Class of 2024.

Additional details about the Class of 2025, including disaggregated graduation rate data, will be shared with the Gwinnett County Board of Education on October 16, 2025, during its regularly scheduled Work Session.
