South Gwinnett High School is making waves on the national stage as one of four finalists in The Home Depot National Case Competition, placing in the Top 10 nationwide. On Wednesday, March 5, at 12 p.m., the school’s 3DE student team will compete against two teams from Florida and one from Georgia. The competition can be viewed via Zoom.
This competition challenges students to apply real-world problem-solving skills, a key focus of the 3DE instructional model, which empowers students through experiential learning and business case studies. As part of the competition, students engage in design thinking to address a challenge presented by The Home Depot. The teams immerse themselves in understanding the needs of DIYers, conducting thorough research, developing prototypes, and testing their innovative solutions. Their efforts will culminate in a 3-5-minute presentation, where they will showcase their findings and proposed solutions to The Home Depot.
South Gwinnett High’s recognition as a finalist underscores the impact of the 3DE model in equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in a competitive, ever-evolving world. The students’ success in achieving this stage of competition reflects their commitment to excellence and innovation, reinforcing the power of real-world learning experiences in Gwinnett County Public Schools.
