More than a dozen Gwinnett County public schools have been named AP® School Honor Roll Schools by the College Board. This distinction celebrates schools nationwide whose Advanced Placement (AP) programs deliver results for students while broadening access to rigorous academic opportunities.
Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts says the recognition is a reflection of the hard work and focus of students and teachers in the schools. “I'm incredibly proud of our 14 GCPS schools recognized on the AP® School Honor Roll by the College Board,” Dr. Watts shares. “These honors reflect our commitment to preparing our students for success beyond high school by broadening access to rigorous academic opportunities and empowering them to earn college credit. These achievements underscore the dedication that our teachers, students, and families put forth in order to foster a strong and positive college-going culture.”
GCPS’ honorees are among 5,061 schools across the country. The AP School Honor Roll offers schools recognition across four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
- Schools on the AP School Honor Roll may also earn the AP Access Award, honoring schools that demonstrate a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.
- For a school to be recognized on the AP School Honor Roll, it must be located within the United States (including U.S. territories) or Canada and meet each of the following criteria anchored in research-based relationships between AP and college outcomes:
- College Culture: 40% or more of graduating cohort took at least one AP Exam during high school.
- College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam during high school.
- College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating cohort took five or more AP Exams during high school. At least one of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th grade, so that students are spreading their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any single year.
- College Culture: 40% or more of graduating cohort took at least one AP Exam during high school.
