Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has named Priya Shah of Norcross High School as the 2024-25 Media Clerk of the Year. The award recognizes a media clerk who, through individual leadership and sustained effort, has made exceptional contributions to the ongoing effectiveness of the school library program.
Shah fosters a love for reading and learning within the Norcross learning community. She promotes reading among students and staff, including clerical and custodial staff, by encouraging participation in school-wide reading initiatives. Recently, she relocated the World Language collection to the library entrance, significantly increasing the circulation of these books. Shah is a leader among her media clerk colleagues, serving on committees, presenting at district-wide professional development meetings, and mentoring new clerks by offering training and insights to help them navigate their roles effectively.
In addition to fulfilling everyday responsibilities, Shah collaborates with her library media specialists, assists teachers with instructional needs, and partners with her local technology team to troubleshoot issues. Further supporting students and the school community, she actively participates in and attends school activities and events.
Lauren Salgado and Lorraine McCullough, the library media specialists at Norcross High, nominated Shah. “Priya creates an inviting and welcoming space in the library while promoting teaching and learning,” shares Salgado. McCullough adds, “She contributes to the instructional programs and events that are integral to our media center by planning tasks that support our roles as school librarians.”
Shah says she enjoys the opportunity to work with students and staff, contributing to a vibrant reading culture at Norcross High. Her efforts enhance the educational experience and promote a strong sense of community. “I am honored to be recognized for my contributions. It is a joy to work with such a supportive and enthusiastic school community. Together, we have created a library program that supports academic and personal growth for students and staff,” says Shah.
