GCPS selects Library Media Clerk of the Year

     Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has named Sydney Blake the 2025-26 Library Media Clerk of the Year. The award recognizes a library media clerk who, through individual leadership and sustained effort, has made exceptional contributions to the ongoing effectiveness of the school library program.

     Blake, who works at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST), has a significant impact on student engagement within a highly academic environment. Her work encourages students to explore reading not only as an academic requirement but as a meaningful and enjoyable part of their learning experience.

     “This award means a lot to me,” Blake shares. “I’ve always looked for a space where creativity and purpose come together, and this role has given me exactly that. It allows me to use my creative talents while inspiring a love of reading among both teachers and students.”

     A strong advocate for community and student wellness, Blake ensures the library is a place where all students feel welcome and represented. From book displays and reading challenges like Read Through Walls to Pokémon‑themed bookmarks created in collaboration with teachers, she encourages meaningful connections. Such initiatives invite collaboration and conversation that foster empathy, curiosity, and a shared sense of belonging among students and staff. 

     Blake’s leadership extends beyond her own school as she actively supports the professional growth of fellow media clerks. She leads learning opportunities that highlight creative approaches to library programming and design. Her willingness to mentor others and continuously refine her own skills reflects her deep commitment to educational excellence and teamwork. 

     Blake values the opportunity to connect with students and staff while helping shape the reading culture at GSMST. Her dedication enhances the overall educational experience and strengthens the school community. “Anytime there’s a new program or event, I get really excited because this is when my School Librarian and I really get to work as a team,” says Blake, reflecting her passion for creating a welcoming library that supports both learning and connection.
