At an event that celebrates some of Gwinnett County’s brightest students, Justin Jiang, of the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST), was named Gwinnett County’s STAR (Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student, representing Gwinnett County’s public and private schools. The STAR honor is awarded to seniors ranking in the top 10 percent of their class with the highest SAT score. As part of the recognition, the honorees choose a teacher who has significantly impacted their academic journey. The GSMST senior selected Sarah  McCook as his STAR teacher.

     Students and teachers were recognized during a reception sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and Partnership Gwinnett. The event recognized 76 recipients from 33 schools across various educational institutions, including Buford City Schools, Gwinnett County Public Schools, Greater Atlanta Christian School, Hebron Christian Academy, Killian Hill Christian School, Notre Dame Academy, Providence Christian Academy, Sugar Hill Christian Academy, and Wesleyan School. Local sponsors include Partnership Gwinnett, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine- Georgia Campus, Georgia Power, Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation, Primerica, Peach State Federal Credit Union, Piedmont Eastside, and University of Georgia- Gwinnett Campus.

     The 2025 Gwinnett County STAR Student and Teacher winners will now move on and compete for the regional title. Regional winners move to the state level to contend for the honor of being named Georgia’s 2024 STAR Student and Teacher.
