Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students were celebrated at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference. Meadowcreek High School seniors Rehan Tariq and Jenny Vo, and North Gwinnett High School junior Duo Lin secured individual and team honors this summer.

“We commend all of our talented students,” says Director of Academies and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Dustin Davis-Austin. “Career and Technical Student Organizations, such as FBLA, help transform classroom learning into practical skills, giving students the confidence to compete, lead, and succeed in their chosen career paths while building the professional networks and character traits that last a lifetime.”

Rehan accepted Meadowcreek High’s Gold Chapter National Award, achieved through students earning points by participating in various FBLA activities and programs throughout the year. Jenny secured the 2nd Place National Award in the “Help Desk” category, a test of technical support and customer service skills. Duo was recognized as the 3rd Place National Award Winner in Accounting I.

“FBLA competitive events are designed to be a crucial bridge between classroom learning and the professional world, providing students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge,” says CTAE Instructional Coach, Dr. Kyle Jones. “[These] events allow students to take concepts learned in their business and career-related classes (like accounting, marketing, management, and technology) and apply them to realistic, workforce-simulated scenarios.”

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the world’s largest career student business organization and just one of the Career and Technical Student Organizations in GCPS. These organizations allow\ GCPS students to participate in leadership development activities and compete in various events at regional, state, and national levels. Students develop real-world skills such as public speaking and presentation, problem-solving, critical thinking, business writing, financial literacy, teamwork and collaboration, and self-discipline.
