More than 440 Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students have been honored for their world language proficiency by the state of Georgia.

A total of 442 high school students earned the 2025 Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) Seal of Biliteracy. The Georgia Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to high school graduates who have a high level of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English. This distinction appears as a seal on the student’s high school diploma and serves as an acknowledgment of their multilingual skills and cultural competence.

Dr. Virin Veder, GCPS’ Director of World Languages and Dual Language Immersion shares his excitement for the program. “Having the largest number of students ever earn the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy reflects the value our community holds for learning languages,” he says “With the support of our dedicated teachers and school leaders, these students are not only mastering a second language, but they are also gaining access to invaluable global opportunities.”

To qualify, students must complete all English Language Arts (ELA) requirements for graduation with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and pass a World Language Advanced Placement (AP) exam with a score of 4 or higher or an International Baccalaureate (IB) exam with a score of 5 or higher. For languages in which an AP or IB test is not available, other language tests approved by GaDOE can be used.
