Following three public hearings and thoughtful consideration of community feedback, the Gwinnett County Board of Education voted on August 13 to approve a  .4 mill reduction in the school district’s maintenance and operations (M&O) millage rate for school property taxes.

Since FY2019 to FY2026, the Board has lowered the rate from 19.10 mills to 18.70 mills, reducing the total millage rate by 1.1 mills.

This decision comes at a time when many Gwinnett families are feeling the impact of rising costs. By reducing the millage rate, the Board aims to provide meaningful property tax relief while continuing to maintain a balanced operating budget that sustains high-quality teaching, learning, and support for all students.

“Our priority is student achievement, and that requires careful stewardship of taxpayer dollars,” says Masana Mailliard, Chief Financial Officer. “This reduction provides economic relief for our community while ensuring we have the resources to invest in excellent instruction, safe and welcoming schools, and the well-being of our students and staff.”

The FY2026 budget—totaling $3.4 billion—was built with input from stakeholders and aligns with the district’s strategic plan goals. It includes targeted investments in early literacy, career and technical education, academic support services, competitive employee compensation, and safe learning environments.

Even with the millage rate reduction, property tax revenue growth from Gwinnett’s expanding property tax digest will allow the district to meet its commitments to students, staff, and the community. This approach reflects the Board’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and long-term stability, while responding to the economic realities faced by Gwinnett residents.
