The 48th Annual Gwinnett Regional Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair brought together students from across Gwinnett County to present their talented and purposeful work. Held at the Gas South Convention Center, the Regional Fair showcased the remarkable Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) talent found in Gwinnett County schools and connected tomorrow’s science and engineering leaders with the STEM business and community leaders of today.

The theme for this year’s fair was “Building Our Future: One Project at a Time.” On the day of the fair, the Gas South exhibit halls were buzzing with activity as elementary, middle, and high school students presented their projects and interviewed with judges. Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Directors of K-5 Science, Kristin Luthi, and 6-12 Science, Jessica Holden, say they were impressed by students’ projects.

“This year’s fair showed just how far our students are pushing scientific discovery. Projects like MicroMCED: A Novel PoC SERS PNA Probe Multicancer Early Detector and Enhancing Dementia Independence with an AI Assistive Wearable highlight not only their growing scientific skill, but also the empathy and purpose behind their work,” Luthi and Holden add. “Our students are creating projects that aim to improve lives, and their ideas have the potential to influence STEM fields—and our community—in the very near future.”

The Gwinnett Regional Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair is an annual tradition that has been in place for over 40 years. Gwinnett County recognizes the urgent need for our nation to produce science-literate citizens and skilled, knowledgeable engineers and researchers to meet our nation’s needs and compete in a global economy. Each year, the fair is enhanced by the involvement of science and engineering professionals who serve as judges, as well as the sponsors, partners, volunteers, GCPS staff members, and community members whose support helps make the event possible.
