Three Gwinnett County schools have been recognized for their excellence in athletics and commitment to sportsmanship. Central Gwinnett High School, Duluth High School, and Parkview High School have been named recipients of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award, an honor that highlights their dedication to respect, fairness, honesty, and responsibility in competitive events.
Sponsored by Georgia’s Electric Membership Cooperatives (EMCs), the GHSA Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to one school in each region within each GHSA classification—totaling 56 winners statewide across seven classifications and eight regions. Central Gwinnett, Duluth, and Parkview High Schools are the only schools in Gwinnett County to receive this prestigious recognition this year.
“These schools have demonstrated that success in athletics is not only measured by wins and championships but also by the character and integrity shown in competition,” Jason Holcomb, GCPS Director of Athletics shares. “This recognition is a testament to the leadership of our coaches, the dedication of our student-athletes, and the supportive communities that reinforce the values of good sportsmanship. We are incredibly proud of Central Gwinnett, Duluth, and Parkview for setting an example for all of Gwinnett County.”
Since its inception in 2006, the GHSA and Georgia’s EMCs have sponsored the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award to reinforce the GHSA philosophy: “Students, athletes, coaches, spectators, and all others associated with high school activities programs should adhere to the fundamental values of respect, fairness, honesty, and responsibility.” Schools earning this award exemplify outstanding sportsmanship throughout the school year, both on and off the field.
