Kindergarten Registration is open for the 2026-2027 school year

     Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Kindergarten Registration is now open. If your potential student is or will be 5 years old by September 1, they are eligible to register.

     To get started, you need an email address and a cellphone or computer. The registration process should take about 20 minutes. While the first day of school (August 5, 2026) may feel far away, registering now helps schools and families prepare for the school experience of the district’s youngest learners.

     “This is such an exciting time of year as families begin enrolling their children for kindergarten!” says Executive Director of Early Learning & School Readiness Kim Holland. “Registering early is incredibly important. When families complete registration in the spring, schools can begin preparing right away to support each child. Early registration allows teachers and staff to learn essential information about incoming students so that, on the very first day, your child is welcomed, known, and ready to be part of the school community. Early enrollment also helps schools plan classrooms, hire staff, and ensure that everything is in place for a smooth and joyful start to kindergarten.”

A child starting kindergarten typically can...

• Recognize some letter sounds and know many letters by sight.
• Talk in complete sentences in an understandable voice.
• Demonstrate appropriate school behavior, including:
  • When to use an “inside” voice
  • When to wait for a turn
  • How to share with a friend
• Sit and actively listen for 10 minutes or more at a time.
• Follow multi-step directions.
