State Superintendent Richard Woods visits GCPS
  • GCPS News

Forty-nine Gwinnett County public schools have been recognized by Georgia State Superintendent Richard Woods for their excellence in literacy and math. Woods honored the schools during a ceremony at Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center. During the event, the principals, and some accompanied by their support staff, were presented with banners after the Georgia Department of Education named their school a Literacy Leader School, Math Leader School, or both.

The Literacy Leader honor recognizes schools for achievement or growth in the percentage of students reading at grade level or above. The 20 GCPS schools that earned the honor are among a select group of 406 from around the state. The Math Leader award recognizes schools for achievement or growth in the percentage of students scoring at the Proficient Learner level or above in mathematics. Twenty-nine of the 479 schools that earned the award are from GCPS.
