The 48th Annual Gwinnett Regional Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair is coming to the Gas South Convention Center on Friday, February 27. The goal of the fair is to showcase the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) talent in Gwinnett County schools and connect tomorrow’s science and engineering leaders with the STEM business and community leaders of today.

This year's theme is “Building Our Future: One Project at a Time.” Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is looking for judges to help provide the architects of tomorrow, our students, with the building blocks they need to maximize their potential. GCPS Director of K-5 Science, Kristin Luthi, and Director of 6-12 Science, Jessica Holden, say science and engineering professionals who volunteer to judge are integral to the science fair process.

“When our community partners step in as judges, they do far more than score projects— they show our students that their ideas matter beyond the classroom. Their presence validates curiosity, sparks confidence, and helps our youngest learners see themselves as real scientists making real contributions. That kind of encouragement is transformative, and we’re deeply grateful for it,” Luthi and Holden add.

Judges will have the opportunity to meet and interact with talented elementary, middle, and high school students who are exploring their passions in science and engineering. Fair participants are eager to share their work with experts in their particular fields of interest. During the fair, judges will review student project presentations and interview students about their work. They may choose to participate in morning, afternoon, or full-day judging sessions.

Andrea P. Mann, DO, FAAP, dean and chief academic officer at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) Georgia, says that as a physician and a science fair judge for many years, she’s had the privilege of getting a glimpse at the next generation of medical professionals.

“Community judges help students feel seen, supported, and inspired to keep asking big questions,” Dr. Mann adds. “PCOM Georgia’s partnership with GCPS through the Science and Engineering Fair is important because it helps create an early, intentional pathway into science and medicine by connecting students with healthcare professionals, from physicians and scientists to pharmacists, physician assistants, physical therapists, and laboratory scientists, right here in Gwinnett County.”
