Three students from Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) have been selected for the 2024-25 Teen Team at the High Museum of Art. Ivan Thomas of Collins Hill High School, Sharika Awasthi of Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST), and Milena Woldai of Peachtree Ridge High School were chosen for this competitive program. The program offers high school students the opportunity to engage with art, culture, and community outreach.
The Teen Team is comprised of 15 rising juniors and seniors who take part in an eight-week summer intensive program, followed by monthly meetings throughout the year. While working at the High Museum, participants have the opportunity to access behind-the-scenes areas of the museum, contribute to the planning of public events like Teen Night, and gain insight into various careers in the art industry.
“This kind of opportunity helps students connect with their community in meaningful ways while developing valuable skills,” says GCPS Director of Fine Arts David DuBose. “Programs like the Teen Team are crucial in fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts and promoting the importance of arts education.”
Teen Team members collaborate closely with museum staff and arts professionals to organize programs for teens, youth, and families. Many participants later pursue scholarships, internships, and future roles within the museum and the broader art community.
