Building a Strong Literacy Support Network

Building a Strong Literacy Support Network

Literacy is the foundation of a child's education and future success. As a family, you play a crucial role in supporting your child’s development and fostering a love for reading and writing. Building a strong literacy support network can make a significant difference in your child's learning journey. By partnering with the Gwinnett County Public Library, you can access a wealth of resources and engage in community events to support your child's literacy development alongside their teacher.

  1. Access a Wide Range of Books
  • Diverse Collection: The Gwinnett County Public Library offers a vast collection of books for all ages and interests. Whether your child loves adventure stories, science fiction, or informational books, you'll find something to spark their interest.
  • Easy Access: With 15 branches and convenient hours, visiting the library is easy. You can also access e-books and audiobooks online, making it simple to find reading material anytime.
  1. Utilize Extensive Multi-Media Resources
  • Digital Tools: The library provides access to various digital resources, including educational apps, online tutoring, and interactive learning platforms to provide specialized support and appeal to unique interests.

  1. Engage in Local Community Literacy Events
  • Storytimes and Workshops: Participate in storytime events, reading challenges, and educational workshops hosted by the library.
  • Special Programs: Look out for special programs that combine literacy with fun activities. These events provide an excellent opportunity for your child to connect with other readers and make reading fun and interactive. To access the events calendar, click here!
  1. Collaborate with Your Child's Teacher
  • Stay Informed: Regular communication with your child's teacher is essential. Discuss your child's reading progress and any areas that need attention. Teachers can provide valuable insights, provide suggestions for learning at home, and recommend resources available at the library.
  • Support Classroom Learning: Reinforce what your child is learning in school by finding related books and materials at the library. This helps create a cohesive learning experience and strengthens your child's understanding of the subjects.

Building a strong literacy support network is a collaborative effort that involves parents, teachers, and the community. The Gwinnett County Public Library has partnered with GCPS through the Branch Out program, providing our students with library accounts that include perks like no late fees and access to all of the print and digital resources from the library system. Connect with your school’s library media specialist to access your student’s account at www.gwinnettpl.org.
