Facilities and Operations Division participates in South Gwinnett High School’s Inaugural Career and Trade Fair

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, South Gwinnett High School hosted its inaugural Career and Trade Fair, welcoming approximately 700 students from Shiloh, South Gwinnett, and Grayson High School, and Grayson Technical Education Program. The event provided students with valuable exposure to a wide range of career pathways and post-graduation opportunities.

“We wanted to align education with workforce needs by bringing high-demand industries directly to our students,” shares South Gwinnett High Career Academy Coach Franchesca Thompson. “The goal was to create meaningful interactions that could lead to real job opportunities. It was also important for us to partner with neighboring schools in our district, expanding access and ensuring more students could benefit from these opportunities.”

Among the 26 participating companies and organizations, the Facilities and Operations (F&O) team was honored to engage directly with students and showcase the many career options available within Gwinnett County Public Schools and F&O, specifically. Representatives from Environmental, Print and Supply Services, Transportation and Fleet Maintenance, Building Maintenance, Facility Planning and Construction, and Grounds Maintenance were all in attendance. Throughout the event, team members connected with students through meaningful conversations, sharing personal career experiences and participating in interview-style questions and answers.

Students learned about entry-level opportunities available immediately after graduation, and about those careers requiring specialized training, certifications, or age requirements, such as skilled trades, construction roles, and transportation. F&O staff provided guidance on career pathways, training programs, and the steps needed to pursue these professions in the future.

“Attending the career fair was such an eye-opening experience,” says South Gwinnett High 12th-grader Jada Clay. “It was amazing to connect with Gwinnett Technical College and learn more about their programs. My goal is to become an ultrasound technician after high school, and hearing about the hands-on training and career opportunities at Gwinnett Tech really solidified my decision. I’m excited to take the next steps!”
