GCPS middle school students shine in STEM competition

Gwinnett County Public Schools’(GCPS) middle school students came together to become problem solvers this semester through the Nordson Tech Time Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) competition. The competition challenges students to identify a problem in a relevant content area and develop a solution through an essay.

"Our partners from Nordson are phenomenal in engaging students via the high-energy, interactive STEM student assemblies they hold to recognize the winners," says GCPS Coordinator of STEM, Tyler Kinner. “In this particular competition, students were tasked with designing solutions for problems related to the relevant grade-level AKS in science and math. Nordson specifically highlighted the creativity of the students' proposed solutions and the ways in which they communicated their ideas — including a poem about pesticides and natural selection!”

Three students from each of the following schools received Nordson prize packs, which included an iPad. Plus, each school that met the 75% participation rate received $ 1,000 in STEM education grants.
