GIVE Center East and GIVE Center West – Serving students, supporting their potential
The Gwinnett InterVention Education, or GIVE Centers, provide alternative education programs that serve the educational and behavioral needs of students, while assuring their academic progress in a supportive environment.
“GIVE Center East and GIVE Center West do a phenomenal job of serving those students who are in need of additional support to ensure that they’re going to be successful,” shares Cluster Superintendent Dr. Reuben Gresham “We have students who need care and love beyond anything that you can imagine, and I’m so thankful for the teacher-leaders, the principals, the administrative staff, and the support staff at GIVE, because both of these schools are saving lives.”
The GIVE Centers— both East and West— strive to be schools that focus on student success. Individual needs are addressed through a variety of scheduling strategies and options, including block courses, course acceleration (self-paced), course recovery support, credit recovery support, and academic support courses.
“The GIVE Center provides a nonjudgemental, educational setting for students who have made a mistake, which we all do,” says Leshon Dempsey, school social worker at GIVE Center East. “To be a bridge between their past and their future success is something I look forward to every day.”
Both locations include counselors and social workers among the staff, and access to wrap-around support services.
Christian, a student at GIVE Center West, enjoys being actively involved at the school. “It’s important because you have a second chance. When you feel like you mess up, this is a place to let you get yourself back up and boost your confidence,” he shares.
“We go out of our way to make sure that our most vulnerable students and the most vulnerable populations have the resources they need to be successful and the resources they need to meet their academic and behavioral goals,” shares GIVE Center West Social Studies Teacher Dr. Alexandra Thomas.
