Lanier High School student's PSA honored for promoting safe driving

Inspired to keep his peers safe, a Lanier High School 11th-grade student created a Public Service Announcement (PSA) encouraging teens to stay off their devices when driving. Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) student Tyson England entered the Georgia PSA Heads Up Contest, and his PSA titled "Gameday” placed 2nd out of 200 entries.  Along with this achievement, Tyson was invited to attend the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class Championships and received a V.I.P. tour of Mercedes Benz Stadium. Additionally, his PSA aired on Georgia Public Broadcasting between the GHSA 2A and 5A Championship games, where he was interviewed about it.

“I am very grateful I was able to participate in the Heads Up Georgia video competition. Being able to produce this video and have it shared with the community has been invaluable to me knowing its message may help save lives in the future,” Tyson shares. “I am very thankful to have the support of my film teacher, Mr. [Keith] Phillips. His class has given me the ability to explore different filming opportunities while also challenging my abilities and creativity in both filming and editing. I also could not have completed this video without my friend and actor, Austin Meyers, and I am very excited to enter more video competitions in the future.”

After graduating from Lanier High School, Tyson is committed to playing Lacrosse at Savannah College of Art and Design. He will pursue a degree in film and venture into 3D Animation/Visual Effects.
