Congratulations are in order for Gloria Bedford, a 7th-grade Language Arts teacher at McConnell Middle School, who was recognized for her impact in the classroom. Bedford was awarded $5,000 by the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers initiative. She was nominated by University of Georgia Softball Player and former Dacula High School graduate Emily Digby for the impact Bedford had on her as a student.

“Being selected for this honor truly means a great deal to me,” Beford shares. “It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the impact I try to make each day is recognized. Teachers often put in a great deal of effort that isn’t always seen or appreciated. At times, students may misunderstand strong structure or consistent classroom management as being strict or mean, when the real intention is to help them grow. Emily understood that completely, and I’m truly honored to have been remembered and chosen for this recognition."

Bedford plans to use the funds to support her school community with classroom supplies and materials.

The initiative is the largest sports entity dedicated to supporting educators, with a mission to focus on supporting resources, recognition, recruitment, and professional development.
