Welcome to the Gwin Oaks Elementary School Carter Museum!
Gwin Oaks Elementary School has found a special way to honor former President Jimmy Carter by creating its own version of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. Designed by the school’s staff, the display features memorabilia from Carter’s life, including campaign materials, photos, books, art, and video presentations.
In addition to the interactive exhibits, students will have the opportunity to sign a condolence book in memory of President Carter. This initiative not only pays tribute to the Georgia native but also offers a valuable educational experience.
“Our curriculum introduces students to President Carter and other notable Georgians, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but it provides only a brief overview of his life and work,” Gwin Oaks Elementary Principal Dr. Craig Barlow shares. “Most of our students are eager to learn more about President Carter, but many don’t have the chance to visit the Carter Center. This tribute is our way of reinforcing his legacy and his ongoing impact on our state and nation.”
Barlow hopes the tribute will inspire students and their families to further explore Carter’s contributions. “We want to encourage them to take the opportunity to visit the Carter Center and learn more about his work,” Dr. Barlow shares. “Jimmy Carter is the only president from Georgia, and we wanted to highlight his remarkable life and lasting achievements. By bringing a piece of history into the school, we’ve created a meaningful opportunity for students to connect with and reflect on the former president’s enduring influence.”
