GCPS Students Earn AP Capstone Diplomas and Certificates

Hundreds of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students have earned the prestigious Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone distinctions, including the AP Capstone Diploma and the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.

This year, 371 GCPS students from 14 GCPS schools earned the AP Capstone Diploma, while an additional 57 students from 11 GCPS schools received the AP Seminar and Research Certificate, reflecting the district’s continued commitment to academic excellence, critical thinking, and college readiness.

“Seeing our students earn these AP Capstone distinctions is truly inspiring,” says GCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Al Taylor. “This work asks them to think critically, and take ownership of their learning—and they’ve risen to that challenge in incredible ways. I’m proud of their commitment and the support from our teachers who guide them every step of the way. Achievements like this show what’s possible when we set high expectations and give students the tools to succeed.”

The AP Capstone program, developed by the College Board, is a rigorous two-year experience that challenges students to investigate real-world issues, conduct research, collaborate, and present findings. Students who complete AP Seminar, AP Research, and four additional AP exams earn the AP Capstone Diploma. Those completing AP Seminar and AP Research earn the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.
