GCPS students outperform state and metro peers on 11 of 13 Georgia Milestones Assessments

     Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students outperformed students in Georgia and the Metro Regional Education Services Area (RESA) on 11 of 13 Georgia Milestones assessments in math, science, and social studies for the 2025-26 school year. 

    The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) released the Georgia Milestones Assessment System results on August 6 for the 2025-26 school year in mathematics, science, and social studies. For the 2025-26 school year, new English Language Arts (ELA) standards were fully implemented along with a new set of ELA Milestones assessments. ELA scores are expected later this fall following additional test development activities.

     GCPS Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella says, “These results are a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our scholars, educators, school leaders, and families across GCPS. I am encouraged to see our scholars outperforming their peers across the state and region in so many areas, but our work does not stop there. We must continue to build on what is working, look closely at where we have opportunities to improve, and ensure every scholar has access to the high-quality instruction and support they need to succeed.”

     These results reflect strong performance across multiple grade levels and content areas, particularly in mathematics, social studies, 5th-grade science, and Biology. The two areas where state and Metro RESA results were higher were 8th-grade Science End-of-Grade (EOG) and Physical Science End-of-Course (EOC). 

     The Georgia Milestones Assessment System meets the federal requirement that states test students in mathematics and English language arts in grades 3-8 and once in high school. Students in grade 5 take the Science EOG, 8th-grade students take EOG assessments in science and social studies, and students enrolled in state-tested high school courses take the Milestones EOC for each course.
