Gwinnett County School Police prepare for Back-to-School Bash

     The Gwinnett County School Police have been hard at work preparing backpacks for the sixth annual Back-to-School Bash at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. Donated by the Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Foundation, backpacks are equipped with essential school supplies to help students succeed throughout the academic year. Each backpack contains pens, pencils, Expo markers, notebooks, a journal, and colored pencils. These items provide students with the basic tools needed to be prepared for classroom instruction and daily educational activities.

     “Community engagement is one of the most rewarding aspects of our profession,” says Officer Ronnetta Coates. “Officer Hayden McCall, Officer Shaun Gonzalez, and I enjoy interacting with families and bringing smiles to members of the community.”

     The Back-to-School Bash will be held on Saturday, July 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, located at 2405 Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville. The event is hosted by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office and Live Healthy Gwinnett in partnership with Keybo Building Bridges. This free, family-friendly event will feature health screenings, community resources, vendors, fun activities, and school supply giveaways while supplies last. This event is open to the public and is not limited to any specific school, cluster, or attendance zone. Families throughout the county are encouraged to attend and take advantage of the available resources and school supplies.

     “Events such as this allow us to build positive relationships with students and parents outside of a Law Enforcement setting, while helping ensure children have the tools they need to start the school year prepared for success,” Officer Coates adds. “Seeing the excitement and appreciation from the families we serve is a fulfillment that is difficult to put into words. We are proud to continue supporting this community initiative and look forward to serving the families of Gwinnett County.”

     The Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to providing financial resources to enrich and enhance education in GCPS.
