South Gwinnett High School's 3DE Team advances to Nationals

South Gwinnett High School’s (SGHS) first-level Marketing Principles class has qualified to advance to the Arby’s Final National Case Competition. SGHS was one of 80 schools in the competition and one of four to make the Final Four. The team, comprised of five students, Faeezah Ashiru, Rayan Bouhali, Alayah Brown, Joy Bunor, and Mauriyah Pasteur, will compete on April 15 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The competition can be viewed on Zoom.

Penny Williams, a first-year 3DE teacher and team advisor, is proud of her students.

“It is such an incredible honor to represent South Gwinnett High School in this capacity,” Williams shares. “Honestly, seeing our students place in the Top 4 of the National Arby's Case Brief Challenge during my first year is a moment I’ll never forget. While I am immensely proud of the work we’ve done in the classroom, this achievement belongs entirely to the students. Their dedication to the case challenge and their ability to tackle real-world business problems with such creativity and poise is what truly shines.”

During the competition, students will present solutions to the case challenge questions via live, on-camera presentations in front of a panel of Arby’s senior executives. All participants will receive a Final Four Hoodie and a certificate of participation. Members of the winning team will receive individual awards, as well as a championship banner for display at their school.

“I also have to acknowledge that ‘it takes a village,’” Williams says. “I would not be the instructor I am today without the tireless support of the South Gwinnett 3DE Team. A huge thank you to Ms. Nikki Thornton, our School 3DE director, and my amazing and creative 3DE Team: Nikki Williams, Tammeisha Law, and Shaira Wright. Their mentorship, along with the unwavering support of SGHS Administrative Staff led by our wonderful Principal, Rodney Jordan, created the environment where these students could succeed.”

In addition to the first-level Marketing Principles class win, the school’s second-level Marketing & Entrepreneurship class participated in the quarterfinals of The Home Depot’s National Case Competition.

3DE is a program that aims to “re-engineer” education through relevant, experiential, and authentic real-world situations and projects that fully prepare students for the demands of today’s and tomorrow’s economy.
